The Empire Pool Tour has announced plans to introduce a two tier tournament system after the current ranking season which starts in February.
The outline plans are as follows: The Top 64 ranked players after the final event of this season (see previous post: New EPT Season) will be invited to play in what will become the EPT Pro Tour which will carry increased and guaranteed prize money. The remaining players will be able to play in the EPT Challenge Tour which will have lower entry fees and will also carry its own guranteed prize money.
At the end of each season the bottom 16 from the Pro Tour will be relegated and the Top 16 from the Challenge Tour will be promoted.
Personally I think this is a step in the right direction for UK pool. It allows players to develop on the Challenge Tour and be able to compete on a level playing field with players of their own standard.
