Snooker: Murphy Sets New Ranking Record

Shaun Murphy last night set a new snooker ranking event record when he defeated Jamie Cope 5-0 in the Welsh Open.

Murphy became the first player in 31 years and 201 world ranking tournaments to compile 4 consecutive centuries in a best of 9 frame match. The first frame ended with a run of 135 and was followed by a 123, 102 and a 101. He also had a chance in the last frame but lost position at a crucial moment.

Murphy who won the Malta Cup earlier this month looks in fine form again and now plays Jamie Burnett of Scotland who put away the last Welshman in the draw, Mark Williams.
