Snooker: Day One Upsets for Hendry and Doherty

Day One of the Maplins UK Championships has already seen two former world champions beaten in the first round.

Stephen Hendry was the first to fall to rising star Mark Allen - the scoreline over these longer matches was also a surprise as Allen beat him 9-4.

The second champ to be dismissed was Ken Doherty defeated by another player currently climbing the rankings and finding a bit of form. Nigel Bond, not one of the youngest on the tour but stringing together a number of consistent results. He beat Doherty in a twitchy affair 9-7.

Other Results:

Stephen Maguire 9-3 Joe Swail
